The Deckside Replaster Process

First a saw cut with a diamond masonry blade is made to undercut the tile line to preserve the existing swimming pool tile, unless new tile is being installed, then the old tile is removed. The old plaster is removed down to the original gunite All plaster chips and waste material will be cleaned up and hauled away.

Any other in process work to be done on the pool, including tile, field sump fabrication, new drain cover rings and VGB certified drain covers, lighting can repairs, skimmer repairs, handrail anchors or equipment that is listed on your contract, will be done prior to the pool being plastered. Once all the pre-plaster tasks and preparation is complete, the pool will typically be plastered within 2-4 days.

When plastering is complete, our crews will start filling the pool with water. Refilling of large commercial pools can be very time consuming and range from a few days to several weeks. Multiple hoses will be used where possible, however built in "pool fill" systems will not be used until the pool is at least 1/2 full to prevent damage to the soft new plaster. A protective cloth is placed on the end of each hose to prevent damage.

The water will be shut off when it is about halfway up the tile line.

Once the plaster has started to cure, the pool is ready for the startup process.

If Deckside is providing the startup process, we used an acid startup process that is the preferred and tested method for proper plaster break-in. The acid startup process and brushing quickly eliminates the excess plaster dust and leaves your pool surface smooth for years of enjoyment.

After the startup process is complete, water is rebalanced and the pool is circulating with a small amount of chlorine, our inspectors will conduct a final walk through before turning the pool over to the regular pool service.

Pools plastered and filled following the above procedure carry a five-year bonding warranty, which guarantees that plaster will be watertight and will not peel, blister or delaminate provided that the pool structure remains sound, that start-up procedures recommended by the builder or service company are followed and the water chemistry after start-up is properly maintained.
